Overview: Chihuahua are very small in size and a single vomit causes dehydration in the puppy. Vomiting may be acute or it may occur to a chronic way that needs an immediate treatment.
Acute vomiting: In case of acute vomiting, it stops instantly and it will not affect a lot. Puppy acts normally even after vomiting. Most of the time the reason for vomiting is also remaining unknown. It may occur when the pup eats in a fast manner.
What to do in case of acute vomiting?
- Check your pup if any other sign is appearing or not. Because sometimes spasms occur after vomiting which cause nausea. Other after effects of vomiting include distress, refuses water or food, weakness and trouble in breathing.
- If the puppy feeling fine after the vomit than offer meal to fill the empty stomach. Meal may include oatmeal, sweet potato, banana, or rice.
- Try to encourage the pup to drink water and if it is not drinking than offer some ice cubes. It will make the puppy better.
Chronic vomiting: In case of severe vomiting, Chihuahua may suffering from dehydration. If Chihuahua tries to eat but the food comes right back then it also cause severe weakness to the puppy. There are many food items that cause allergy to the puppy which ultimately lead to pups vomiting. According to the food related studies, about 10% of the allergies cause due to food that cause skin and ear infection, itching and swelling.
How to treat food intolerance? The best way to treat the food intolerance is to provide the food that is easily digestible and the meal should be plain.
