Information about eating habits of Chihuahuas


Overview: Chihuahua cannot eat all kinds of food items. There are various foods that are very toxic to the Chihuahua. Additionally, there are some food items that are not poisonous apparently but makes the stomach upset. Toxic food effects the puppy in various ways which include gastrointestinal problems, low blood sugar level, kidney damage and death.

 

List of food items which are lethal to puppy:

Alcohol: Alcohol is quite dangerous to the Chihuahua. It causes central nervous system depression. Other signs of alcohol poisoning include vomiting, diarrhea, tremors, lethargy, hyperactivity, breathing problem, heart attack and even death.

 

Apples: Fermentation is basically of two types, alcohol fermentation and lactic acid fermentation. In Alcohol fermentation wine and beer is produced whereas in lactic acid fermentation dairy and vegetable items are produced. Such types of apples are dangerous as the meal of puppy.

 

Bread dough: The bread dough that is not well cooked and consist of yeast is lethal to the Chihuahua. The yeast fermentation causes breathing issue, lack of coordination, diarrhea, misperception, weariness, confiscations, tremors and in severe cases it can cause death of the puppy.

 

Chocolate: Theobromine is the component that is present in the chocolate which is very lethal to dogs. The symptoms may include:

  • Mild toxicity may result in vomit, hyperactivity, digestion issue and restlessness.
  • Moderate toxicity may result in abnormal heart beat, tremors, and hyperthermia.
  • Severe toxicity may result in seizures, collapse and death.

 

Garlic: There is thiosulphate in the garlic that is very poisonous to the puppy. It may cause gastroenteritis. If it is given for a long time period in a little amount then it may cause hemolytic anemia.

 

What to do to eliminate toxic food effect?

  • Call the veterinarian instantly in case of any food reaction
  • Follow the instructions of vet properly
